Dropcam Legacy Camera Replacement Program

We’re always trying to improve Dropcam and the software behind it. But that means some features won’t work with our older Dropcam models. As we improve Dropcam, we’ll no longer be able to give active Dropcam Original and Dropcam Echo owners an experience that meets our standards. So we decided to stop supporting these products and offer active legacy camera owners a free replacement Dropcam HD camera. 


How do I know if my camera is eligible for replacement?
To receive your replacement Dropcam HD, your Dropcam Original or Dropcam Echo camera must meet the following criteria:

  • Active between December 22nd, 2014 and January 21st, 2015

  • Or been on an active CVR subscription

You should have received an email to the email address associated with your Dropcam account if you were eligible for this replacement program. Please make sure to check your spam folder. 

Will my old camera still work?
Dropcam Original and Dropcam Echo models will work until April 15th, 2015. After that, they will stop working.

When can I expect my replacement cameras?
Cameras will ship between 4-6 week of replacement request.

Do I need to send back my old camera?
No, it’s yours to keep. However it will stop working on April 15th, 2015. 

How do I set up my replacement camera?
Plug it into your computer’s USB port and find the Dropcam icon on your desktop. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

How do I transfer my existing account to the replacement camera?
Add your replacement camera to your existing Dropcam account and follow the setup instructions.

I have a cloud video recording (CVR) subscription on my old camera. What will happen to my subscription?
Once you receive your replacement camera, you will get 1 more month of free CVR service. After that, you'll need to subscribe to the standard CVR plan advertised on

If you have a monthly plan, we will stop charging your account on March 1st, but you will continue to get CVR until April 15th when your camera stops working. If you are on a yearly plan, we will refund the remaining months on your subscription on March 1st and give you CVR free until your camera stops working on April 15th.

I am on the grandfathered CVR plan and have been a customer since 2011. What happens to my CVR subscription?

Thank you for being a long time customer, however we will no longer be able to honor the grandfathered CVR plans. 

I am paying for CVR. What happens to my saved clips?
Your saved clips will remain on your account until you decide to delete them.
